Impact of Paid Sick Leave Laws and Ordinances on Public Health

Project Director(s)

Dawn Jacobson

The study is assessing the impact of paid sick leave laws and ordinances on preventing and controlling infectious diseases, specifically foodborne and respiratory illness. It will use a mixed-methods, quasi-experimental approach: a policy and legal scan to identify successful and failed attempts to pass such laws and ordinances; a qualitative assessment of facilitators and barriers from the public health practitioner perspective; and a quantitative time-series assessment of the impact of cities and states that have passed a law or ordinance with a matched comparison group of jurisdictions that have not.
