PHI's Alcohol Research Group Study Provides No-Cost Alcohol Treatment for Women

July 02, 2015

The Public Health Institute’s Alcohol Research Group received a federal grant from the National Institutes of Health (NIH, NIAAA) to provide free outpatient alcohol treatment to 220 women who are experiencing alcohol problems. This confidential study is looking at the effectiveness of a talk therapy called Motivational Interviewing.

How to Participate:

We are offering FREE outpatient treatment to adult women seeking treatment for alcohol problems. Participants will receive two hours a week of free individual and/or group treatment for nine weeks. In addition, you will receive a free medical evaluation and compensation for research interviews.

Eligible women will be asked to participate in 4 study interviews over a 12-month period. The interviews occur before you start treatment, again after you complete treatment, then 6 and 12 months following your treatment. You will be compensated in gift cards for each completed interview, up to $180.

The treatment is provided at New Leaf Treatment Center in Lafayette, CA.
