ABOUT THE CALIFORNIA COALITION FOR BLACK BIRTH JUSTICE:

The California Coalition for Black Birth Justice (the Coalition) was co-founded and launched in 2022 by Black women birth justice leaders with the goal of unifying and strengthening the Black birth justice movement in California. The Coalition is the first entity that aims to create statewide collaboration and coordination among Black birth equity and justice efforts. The Coalition is committed to serving as a statewide connector and convener, supporting the care and capacity of the Black birth justice workforce, and scaling systems change improvement efforts with health care institutions. The California Coalition for Black Birth Justice is fiscally sponsored by the Public Health Institute (PHI), a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting health, well-being, and quality of life.

 

POSITION SUMMARY

The Coalition is in an exciting stage of growth and expansion! The Operations & Engagement Coordinator plays a crucial role in ensuring seamless, daily operations while fostering strong relationships with our partners and key leaders. The Operations & Engagement Coordinator is responsible for oversight of administrative processes, working closely with vendors and contractors, and supporting event planning and coordination.

This is a regular, full-time position expected to work 40 hours per week (100% FTE). This is a hybrid position. The incumbent will work remotely and from our Los Angeles office. Occasional travel throughout the state and the country may be necessary.

The typical hiring range for this position is from $62,968 (minimum) to $76,568 (midpoint), based on 100% FTE. Full salary range for this position: $62,968 to $90,167 per year. The starting salary is determined based on the candidate’s knowledge, skills, experience, as well as budget availability.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Operations Coordination:

  • Support the day-to-day operational activities of the Coalition, including scheduling, overseeing contract management processes, and office logistics.
  • In partnership with the broader team, monitor project milestones, deliverables, and timelines, ensuring all team members are informed and prepared.
  • Support Operations & Strategic Partnerships Manager with payment processing and monthly reconciliations.
  • Maintain databases, documentation, and reports related to operations, ensuring accuracy and confidentiality.
  • Assist in developing and improving operational systems, processes, and policies.

Partner Engagement and Coordination:

  • Develop and execute strategies for community and stakeholder engagement, including events, outreach, and relationship building with key birth equity and justice partners.
  • Attend events, meetings, and conferences as a representative of the Coalition.
  • Organize and help manage events such as statewide conferences, workshops, trainings, and meetings to enhance the Coalition’s visibility and impact.
  • Support the ongoing engagement with statewide Strategic Advisors.
  • Assist in developing content for newsletters, social media, and other engagement platforms.
  • Serve as the first-point-of-contact for inquiries, meeting requests, and other incoming communications.
  • Support website maintenance and contact databases for the Coalition.

Team Support:

  • Provide administrative and logistical support to leadership and team members as needed.
  • Coordinate meetings, including preparing agendas, taking minutes, and following up on action items.
  • Work closely with fiscal sponsor, PHI on contracts, submitting documentation, and keeping informed of PHI organizational updates.
  • Contribute to the overall strategy and direction of the Coalition.

Other:

  • Perform other duties and projects as needed.
  • Work remotely and from the office in Los Angeles, CA.
  • Travel within and outside California as requested.

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Three (3) years of experience in operations, project management, or community engagement roles.
  • Bachelor’s degree, or substitute with four additional years of related experience. Discipline in Business Administration, Communications, Public Health, or related field preferred.

  • Deep passion and commitment to birth equity, racial justice, and systems-change work.
  • Must have strong organizational and multitasking skills, with a keen eye for detail.
  • Self-starter who actively looks for and anticipates needs or challenges.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage diverse partners.
  • A positive outlook and demeanor are necessary to excel on this team!
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Google Workspace, project management software.
  • Ability to work independently, manage priorities, and meet deadlines.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree strongly preferred.
  • Creative and strategic thinker who proactively looks for solutions.
  • Excellent writing and verbal communications skills, including the ability to synthesize large amounts of information into succinct summaries and reports.
  • Ability to work with autonomy and thrive in a growing, high-achieving team environment.
