Center for Health Leadership and Impact
The mission of the Center for Health Leadership and Impact (CHLI) is to advance health by increasing leaders’ capacity to transcend boundaries and transform their communities. Through the use of blended learning modalities, CHLI leads programs for teams, coalitions and networks to advance leadership skills and reduce health inequities. Serena Clayton serves as interim principal investigator of CHLI.

- Leadership Learning Network (LLN)

The Leadership Learning Network (LLN) provides ongoing leadership training to public health professionals who have completed a Center for Health Leadership and Practice program. Through webinars and peer networking, the LLN brings together health and leadership experts with program alumni in intimate conversations on new and emerging practices in the public health field.
- Leadership Consulting

CHLP partners with local health departments and regional/national initiatives to help them achieve their goals through customized strategic leadership consultation. Some previous partners: Los Angeles Cty. Dept. of Public Health, Kaiser Permanente Community Benefit of So. Calif., San Francisco Dept. of Public Health, Assoc. of State and Territorial Health Officials, the National Assoc. of County and City Health Officials, Calif. Rural Indian Health Board, Y-USA and the Invest Health Initiative.
- California Leadership Academy for the Public's Health (CaLAPH)

CaLAPH develops cadres of current and emerging leaders working across sectors and disciplines to advance health equity in California. CaLAPH works with participants to plan, develop and/or implement systems change, and to develop partnerships and networks among participants, communities and stakeholders. Teams deepen their leadership practice as they work on an Applied Health Leadership Project to address social determinants of health and work toward Health in All Policies in their community.
- National Leadership Academy for the Public's Health (NLAPH)

NLAPH trains multi-sector teams from across the U.S. to develop the leadership capacity of participants working across sectors to improve population health. This one-year program uses cutting-edge strategies, tools and cross-sector collaboration practices, including an action-learning process that includes webinars, a leadership retreat, coaching support, peer networking, an Applied Health Leadership Project. NLAPH teams learn by doing as they work on an issue already a community priority.
- California Overdose Prevention Network

COPN provides support including TA, coaching and customized learning opportunities to Opioid Safety coalitions working throughout California on the following strategies: adopting safer prescribing practices, improving access to medical treatment, increasing naloxone distribution, and other innovative harm reduction strategies.
- National Overdose Prevention Network

NOPN is a community of inspired learners ready to share best lessons and build new knowledge together, providing a platform to support a national network committed to health equity and preventing both new addictions and unnecessary overdose deaths. It supports a community of partners from across the country with virtual and in-person learning opportunities, sponsored tailored programs, and a robust public website housing trainings, tools and resources.
- AmeriCorps VISTA Program

CHLP’s COPN sponsors the largest AmeriCorps VISTA program dedicated to opioid safety in the country, with the capacity to place 40 VISTA members in coalitions across California. VISTA members serve for one year, bolstering the impact of the coalitions to incite transformational change within their communities. As the sponsor organization, CHLP manages recruitment and placement as well as provides a professional development and support network for AmeriCorps VISTA members throughout the state.
