PHI’s Center for Immigrant and Refugee Health (formerly known as Sehat Initiative) was established in response to the humanitarian and healthcare needs of refugees. The Center focuses on improving the health and well-being of refugees in California and throughout the United States.

This project, implemented in partnership with Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health, seeks to understand the migration experiences of Afghan communities, estimate the burden of mental health and psychosocial challenges, and assess service use. Through formative mixed-methods research, this study aims to provide evidence-based recommendations for improving legal, social, and service responses to better meet the needs of Afghan communities.
