Apply to PHI’s Together Toward Equity Fellowship

PHI’s Together Toward Equity (TTE) Fellowship forges a pathway for Fellows from community-based organizations (CBOs) to grow through coaching, capacity building, project-based leadership, peer networking and access to subject matter experts. Applications are now open for TTE’s second cohort.

PHI’s Together Toward Equity (TTE) Fellowship is a year-long program that supports Fellows from California community-based organizations to receive coaching, capacity building support, project-based leadership training, peer networking and access to subject matter experts. Fellows also receive a $5,000 stipend for their participation. Additional support and benefits are also offered to the organizations represented in the Fellowship, including peer-engagement, skills-building activities, and other identified areas of assistance.

PHI’s Together Toward Equity (TTE) Fellowship is designed to strengthen community leadership and organizational impact by investing in an effective, sustainable and equity-focused public health infrastructure for the future.

Who is eligible to apply?

The Together Toward Equity Fellowship is open to individuals who meet all the following criteria:

❏ Employed at a community-based organization within California.
❏ Employed at a minimum of 50% FTE.
❏ Employed at the organization for a minimum of 6 months.
❏ Live and work in California.
❏ 18 years or older.
❏ Minimum of 3 years of related work experience in public health.
❏ Eligible to work in the United States.
❏ Able to engage in a virtual learning environment.
❏ Able to work collaboratively with others.
❏ Able to communicate comfortably in English.
❏ Have a personal commitment to Equity.
❏ Have a genuine interest in changing public health for the better.
❏ Committed to staying at their current organization for the duration of the Fellowship.
❏ Not currently involved in any elected or appointed political position on the local, state, or federal level.
❏ Have a laptop/computer suitable for participation in virtual and in-person meetings.

The program includes:

  • Fellowship Meetings and Convenings: Fellows participate in virtual meetings twice a month, and 3 in-person convenings. Sessions will support Fellows in building connections and developing key leadership skills.
  • Self-Identified Project: Fellows will identify a project that is closely linked to the day-to-day work within their organizations. Projects serve as an incubator to apply learnings from the Fellowship.
  • Coaching: Fellows will have up to 10 sessions with a leadership coach. Coaching sessions are geared toward supporting Fellows’ leadership development.

PHI’s Together Toward Equity Fellowship provides a dynamic, year-long learning experience, with an inaugural 2023-2024 cohort of fifteen individuals working in nine California counties, selected from community-based organizations across the state. In this blog series, TTE Fellows share experiences related to their leadership development and other lessons-learned throughout the program, and provide insights into their unique perspectives on advancing health equity in their local communities.
