Impact Story: Supporting Communities to Expand and Sustain In-Home Environmental Asthma Interventions

Through the previous three-year Cooperative Agreement, RAMP and NCHH have provided technical assistance to 28 partners across 17 states—helping to improve the capacity of states and communities to expand and sustain in-home environmental asthma interventions through policy and systems change.

"Working with RAMP and NCHH has given us the knowledge, insights, and confidence to continue pursuing our healthy homes work, even when it has been really challenging and we’ve hit roadblocks," said Natalie Talis, a TA recipient with the Alexandria Health Department. "Their expertise has been a tremendous support to achieving our goals and making a difference for our residents!"

RAMP and NCHH will prioritize responsiveness and flexibility over a more prescriptive approach by meeting TA participants where they are, building on their organizational and community strengths and needs, and understanding the broader policy and systems context in which they work.

In addition to providing direct TA, RAMP and NCHH also facilitate peer learning opportunities and have develop tools in response to identified needs. For example, they developed an interactive tool—Roadmap to Sustainable Asthma Home Visiting—to support the many ways local champions can approach designing and launching an asthma home visiting program or service.

Also available: Free capacity-building workshops for asthma home visitors

For over two decades, RAMP has hosted capacity-building workshops for Community Health Workers, promotoras, and other asthma educators in California. With our new Cooperative Agreement, RAMP is now offering these workshops to participants across the country. Participants identify meeting topics, and we find experts for presentations and discussion, hosting 8-10 virtual meetings per year.
