“The California Coalition for Black Birth Justice (CCBBJ) recently hosted a pivotal event at the Grass Room in downtown Los Angeles, dedicated to advancing birth justice and addressing racial disparities in maternal health outcomes. The evening, themed “Birth Justice & Joy,” brought together birth justice leaders, advocates, and partners for a night of soulful celebration and collaboration.
This exclusive event was a unique gathering of key stakeholders in the birth justice movement, including representatives from influential organizations such as the office of Senator Steven Bradford, First 5 Los Angeles, the Weingart Foundation, Essential Access Health, and The California Endowment. These distinguished guests underscored the significant impact and broad support CCBBJ has garnered in its mission to advance equity and justice across California.
The event highlighted CCBBJ’s strategic agenda, “Unifying the Vision for Systemic Change,” which focuses on actionable solutions to address the persistent racial inequities in perinatal outcomes for Black birthing families. Attendees engaged in meaningful discussions on how to coordinate and accelerate birth justice strategies statewide, fostering a unified approach to systemic change.
