Webinar 2: Clinical Implications & Interventions

Tuesday, February 18 | 12-1:30pm PT

In this webinar, we will explore the research and clinical implications of domestic violence among Asian American & Asian immigrant (AAAI) children and families. Drawing from research evidence and clinical practice, we will discuss culturally competent and trauma-informed approaches for healing and recovery, including addressing stigma, shame, and generational trauma within the context of domestic violence, how to engage families in the healing process, and examples of culturally appropriate therapeutic modalities.

Learning Objectives

  • As a result of attending this webinar, participants will be able to:
  • Describe at least two culturally responsive, trauma-informed clinical practices and interventions for addressing unique needs of AAAI children and families affected by domestic violence.
  • Explain at least two strategies to overcome potential barriers to accessing and engaging in treatment for AAAI children and families impacted by domestic violence.
  • Identify at least two positive outcomes of clinical practices and interventions on the mental health of AAAI children and families impacted by domestic violence.

Webinar 1: Background & Impacts on Children & Youth

Tuesday, December 10 | 12-1:30pm PT

In this webinar, speakers will unveil the prevalence and impact of domestic violence, a long-shadowed topic in Asian American and Asian immigrant (AAAI) communities. Drawing from community practice, research evidence, and cultural norms and factors, we will discuss the background, current issues, and unique challenges of domestic violence and service access experienced within AAAI communities. Speakers will also explore how different forms of domestic violence impact the physical and mental health of AAAI children and families and what we can do to prevent, support, and advocate around this issue. This webinar will set the foundation for later webinars in the series on clinical interventions and community programs for victims of domestic violence.

Learning Objectives

As a result of attending this webinar, participants will be able to:

  • Describe at least two dynamics of domestic violence that are common among AAAI families.
  • Explain at least two effects of experiencing/witnessing domestic violence on the physical and/or mental well-being of AAAI individuals.
  • Identify at least two common challenges in serving domestic violence victims from the AAAI community.
